Step 1: Prepare the materials
Gather all the materials needed for the craft. Print out the free star template (we made ours with the cute face, but included a plain star template if that’s more your style) and set it aside. Cut the crepe paper streamers into 6 or 12-inch lengths, ensuring you have a mix of red, white, and blue.
Step 2: Cut out the star shape
Carefully cut out the star shape along the outer edges using safety scissors. Help your preschooler if needed.

Step 3: Color and decorate the star
Next your preschooler can color and decorate the star using their favorite colors, glue, and sparkly glitter. They can also add extra embellishments like stickers or sequins. I know this craft is called a “sparkle star,” but my assistant didn’t want any glitter, so that’s why it’s not on the sample. He drew a special necklace on the star instead π
Step 4: Attach the streamers
Flip the star over and apply glue or tape to one of the points (we used tape). Take one end of a crepe paper streamer and attach it to the glued/taped point. Repeat this step for each streamer, alternating between red, white, and blue streamers. Trim the streamers if desired.
Step 5: Attach the craft stick handle
Next, apply glue or tape to the back of the star and carefully attach the craft stick as the handle. Press firmly to ensure it sticks securely.
Step 6: Let It Shine!
If you used glue, allow the wand to dry completely. Once dry, your preschooler can proudly wave their star wand high in the air, celebrating the 4th of July with their own handmade creation!

Congratulations! You and your preschooler have successfully crafted a sparkling star wand to celebrate the 4th of July in style. Wave those wands proudly, and let the stars and stripes inspire your child’s imagination!
