10 ideas for your 100 day project

When picking a project for your 100 day challenge, it can be really intimidating to decide what you think you can commit to for over 3 months.  The key is picking something that can be accomplished in a short amount of time, like 5-10 minutes a day. If you spend more time each day, great, but it’s not necessary.

Break projects into smaller parts to avoid overwhelm. For instance, this year, for my project, instead of deciding I would knit 5 sweaters or 10 hats, I chose to make projects using only the materials I had on hand and not buy anything new. I have no idea how many items I will end with. All I know is that my goal is to use up the closet full of supplies that have been gathering dust for years. On the very first day, I finished knitting a hat that was sitting 90% finished on my desk.  Most of my materials are yarn, so I will be doing mostly knitting projects. However, I may do a couple little embroidery projects (small, like a single word on a shirt) or a page of a scrapbook.

Here are some other ideas for you if you’re having trouble coming up with ideas. Pick one or a few! There are no rules.

  1. Sketchbook – a daily sketch does not have to be elaborate. Perhaps something from the view outside your window-  a leaf/ a swing set/ patio chair
  2. Collages – use a headline from the day’s news to inspire you
  3. One line message to a loved one – write it on a new blank card, or in a journal. Give it to them at the end of the challenge.
  4. Knit/ crochet a few rows – work on an old project, a new project, something for charity, etc
  5. Dream journal- the more you take time to write down your dreams, the more easily you will start to remember them
  6. Photograph something from your everyday routine – walk the same route everyday during your commute? Take a picture of the things you pass a million times but never really pay attention to.
  7. Create a capsule wardrobe – then create a new outfit every day for a month. Repeat 3 times.
  8. Write or illustrate a postcard – send them to your friends at the end of the challenge. Or make them into a book.
  9. Make a square to create a quilt/ blanket – you can make an actual fabric square, or just design one on paper. Assemble the fabric blanket toward the end of the challenge. If doing it on paper, assemble and frame.
  10. Hand letter a phrase – frame your favorite at the end and hang as part of  a gallery wall.

Don’t forget to tag your Instagram photos with #The100DayProject so everyone can see your work (mine is here). I also recommend coming up with your own hashtag so you can see all of your projects together at the end. Have fun!
